Some interesting history
facts of Godall...
Godall did already exist in the Saracen epoch. We know this because
there a document that refers to it before it was reconquered. Talking
about the possible reconquer of Tortosa to the Arabians, a village
called "Codair" is mentioned. It is possibly the old name
of Godall, given that the place where it used to be can be the same
as its present place. In 1097 Ramon Berenguer III donated it to
the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallés, and in 1153 Ramon
Berenguer IV gave it to Guillem de Copons, the archbishop of Tortosa
after the renconquest.
Fifteen years later, the "Senyoria" of Godall was shared
between Guillem de Copons and Ramon de Centelles and Pere Godall,
who celebrated a meeting of concord in 1228.
The inhabitants of Godall, so as to leave the "senyoria"
of Ramon de Centcelles. Emigrated to the neighbour village of La
Galera, which was under the jurisdiction of the king. Ramon de Centcelles
complained about this to the king, who solve it in 1303 by saying
that the inhabitants of Godall had to render vassalage to their
Lord.
In 1594 Godall argued against the taxes they were asked to pay to
Tortosa, but the Audience of Catalunya pronounced itself for the
rights of the city.
The most important building is the parish church of Sant Salvador.
It belongs to the later Gothic style, and its interior part is very
harmonious.
