Some interesting history facts of
L'Ametlla
de Mar...
Ametlla de Mar is situated in a very privileged location. According
to the experts, the fish in l'Ametlla has a special touch in flavour
because of its proximity to the mouth of the River Ebro, ‘the
delta’. This harvest from the sea is the essence of local
cuisine.
Some typical dishes are ‘The Arrossejat’ (rice cooked
in fish stock), ‘fideua’ (noodles cooked in fish stock),
‘fish and shellfish zarzuela’ (a variety of fish cooked
in sauce), Romesco sauce, black rice, and mixed shellfish platters.
Also, not to forget ‘El suquet de peix calero’.
In 1479 Carles suffered a strong epidemic, and the
survivors left the village and went to Alfara. This is why Alfara
changed its name into "Alfara de Carles".
