The town of Aldea belongs to the
district of Baix Ebre of the province of Tarragona. It has a territorial
extension of 35, 2 Km2 and is has an average of 15 meters above
sea level.
It is situated 175 Km from Barcelona city, and 180 Km from Valencia
city. The town has very good access; the N-340 crosses right through
the village; motorway AP-7; and there is a train station connected
to Barcelona.

facts of Aldea...
The name of Aldea was given by the Arabs when invaded the area,
they called it ‘al-dái’a’, which means
small village.
The oldest remains found in this village date back to the Neolithic
era, and were discovered in 1957 in the ‘Mas de Palma and
Benita’, which proved that there were ethnic tribes established
by the river Ebro. In 1996 the archaeologists found remains from
Greeks and Phoenicians at the Mas de Mussols, at the ‘finca
of Palma’. Some of these remains were urns with incinerated
bones that also carried iron weapons, lances, javelins, chains,
ceramics, etc.
All theses historic objects can be found at the Museum of Montsia.
La Aldea formed part of Tortosa the 21st of April of 1983, day when
it got its independence as a municipality.
